Fourteen year-old cow receives Yea-Sacc1026 Award of Excellence
Global animal health company, Alltech recently presented a Yea-Sacc1026 Award of Excellence to a 14-year-old Holstein cow for outstanding lifetime milk and longevity. Ramble Ridge Michael Joyce, owned by Larry Baxter of Mercer County, has been milked over 4000 days and produced more than 303,000 pounds of milk since first calving in 1992. She has been fed Yea-Sacc1026 from Danville feed company, Burkmann Feeds, for her entire milking life.
Alltech’s live yeast culture,
Yea-Sacc1026 is based on a specific strain
of Saccharomyces cerevisiae and works by stimulating the activity
of beneficial rumen bacteria and stabilizing the rumen environment. This
produces improvements in dry matter intake and fiber digestion, resulting
in production benefits in terms of milk yield and growth rates. Dairy farmers
in more than 70 countries use
Yea-Sacc1026 in dairy cattle rations to
maintain rumen fermentation and improve feed efficiency.
2005 marks Alltech’s 25th year in the animal feed and food business. In the span of those 25 years Alltech’s presence has grown into a multinational company with offices and distributors in 85 countries and more than 1,500 employees around the world. The company works in partnership with its customers and all other relevant sectors of local industry to ensure customized, value added solutions are produced for the changes facing the animal feed industry.
