Fourteen year-old cow receives Yea-Sacc1026 Award of Excellence
[Madison, WI] – GS Ensign Tootie continued her winning streak at World Dairy Expo, taking home the 2005 Miss Yea-Sacc1026 Award on October 4th in Madison, Wisconsin. Miss Yea-Sacc1026, owned by Gary and Jeremy McDonald, is a Brown Swiss dairy cow from Shen-Val Farm in Virginia.
Other awards received by GS Ensign Tootie this year include:
- Grand Champion - New York Spring Dairy Carousel
- First Place Six Years and Older, Total Performance Winner, Best Udder and Production Winner – All-American Dairy Show
Alltech, a global animal health company, sponsored the Miss Yea-Sacc1026 competition. Miss Yea-Sacc1026 received a $1000 cash award, the coveted Miss Yea-Sacc1026 blanket and a year’s supply of Yea-Sacc Farm Pak 2X. The contest judged dairy cows on production criteria such as “Current 305-day Mature Equivalent Milk Pounds” and “Lifetime Milk.” The competition was limited to those cows entered in the World Dairy Expo that have been fed Yea-Sacc1026 for at least one year.
"It is great to see a cow like GS Ensign Tootie win the Miss Yea-Sacc1026 competition," said Randy Cragoe of Alltech. “You don’t always see a successful show cow with high production numbers like hers. She represents what this competition is all about – rewarding dairy producers who make smart nutrition decisions that result in higher production and healthier animals.”
Alltech's feed supplement Yea-Sacc1026 contains the live yeast strain S. cerevisiae 1026. Research shows Yea-Sacc1026 can have a beneficial effect on dairy cows by creating a better working environment for fiber-digesting bacteria. As explained by David Wilde, Alltech's ruminant technical manager, "Yea-Sacc1026 promotes a stable rumen environment by stimulating efficient rumen bacteria. This leads to greater consistency in dry matter intake, and consequently, more milk in the tank."
