Mycotoxin information website launched

[Dublin, IRELAND] - A new, comprehensive mycotoxin information website, www.KnowMycotoxins.com, produced in conjunction with Alltech was launched on July 16, 2007. The website is aimed at educating various market segments in the animal feed industry that are continuously faced with the challenge of overcoming the repercussions of mycotoxins in animal feed and ultimately on their livestock performance.

The interactive website allows the audience to participate in discussion forums and web casts with industry experts. It is targeted to all levels in the industry such as animal producers, nutritionists and veterinarians to ensure it provides them with all they need to know to identify and deal with the growing mycotoxin issue.

"It is fantastic that a central information resource dealing with the issue of mycotoxins now exists," commented Prof. Trevor Smith, University of Guelph, Canada, who was present at the launch this week. "This is an area of growing concern in the agricultural industry and people need to be educated on it."

Dr. Pearse Lyons, president of Alltech added, "Our goal is to deliver the latest technical and practical information to those who are searching for ways to maintain animal health."

As far back as 1985, mycotoxins were known to contaminate the world's feed supply. This can have a detrimental impact on the health of the animal, as well as costing the industry millions of dollars every year in lost grains. The global impact of mycotoxins has been recognised by governing institutions throughout the world and only recently the European Commission of the European Union introduced new legislation on "The recommendation for mycotoxins in products intended for animal feeding," in order to limit the levels of mycotoxins in grains.
