Ethanol Revolution in Agriculture Focus of Alltech's Asia-Pacific Lecture Tour

[Dublin-IRELAND]- Alltech is pleased to announce the details of the 21st annual Asia-Pacific Lecture Tour (APLT). The key focus will be on 'The new energy crisis: food, feed or fuel?' - an area which is of increasing concern for the future of the animal and consumer industry, particularly with the increase in demand for ethanol production and the escalating demand for suitable feedstocks and energy sources. This year's Lecture Tour will visit 16 countries throughout the Asia-Pacific region, starting in Auckland, New Zealand, on Monday, October 29 and finishing in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on November 17. The Asia-Pacific region is a major player in the ethanol boom since China is already the third-largest producer in the world behind the USA and Brazil.

Dr. Lyons, president of Alltech, will look at the current feed crisis in his presentation 'Fast forward: the challenge of the future', where he will address the two confronting challenges facing the feed industry: feeding a hungry world and providing that world with energy. Moreover, in meeting these challenges, solutions must factor in unprecedented levels of world growth and change. The question remains have we the technology to support these changing forces?

Dr. Kate Jacques, director of nutrition, Alltech will present on 'Selenium and animal nutrition: from gene expression to animal performance and from bottom-line profitability to human health'. Jacques will explore the vital role Selenium plays as an essential part of the body's antioxidant defence system and how it is needed for normal growth and reproduction. She will further reiterate how Sel-Plex® from Alltech - the first organic selenium to receive authorisation from the EU and the FDA may be one of the key sources of Selenium supplementation for the supply chain in the future.

In addition, Dr. Jacques will present on 'Selenium and the HIV pandemic: a role in viral evolution, virulence and the pathogenesis of Aids' - a virus that has killed more than 25 million people over the past 25 years. To date there is still neither a cure nor vaccination and infection rates have continued climb in many parts of the world, particularly in the developing world.

Dr. Paul Groenewegen, global NuPro® product manager, Alltech Canada, will focus on the area of 'Maximising reproductive efficiency, the production of quality progeny and bottom-line performance'.

Professor Fernando Rutz, Pelotas Federal University, Brazil will discuss 'Creating a positive bottom line in tomorrow's environment through improved fibre utilisation: the upside and the down side revealed'.
As part of the philosophy of marketing through education, Alltech has delivered a series of Lecture Tours throughout Europe, North America, Latin America and Asia-Pacific, to share the most up-to-date research and technical information with members of the animal food and feed industries.
